Material choice. On a near-water property — anything within 200 feet of the lake, anything where the deck has significant spray or condensation exposure — TimberTech AZEK (100% PVC, no wood fiber) is the material I recommend. Composite boards that have wood fiber in the core, even high-quality capped ones like Trex Transcend, perform differently in sustained high-humidity environments than they do on a standard residential lot.
